Thirteenth dev log for Production
What's been happening this week?
This week i made progress in the city creating the buildings, street and street lamps!
Building A is very simple with a few window and shops own at the bottom, this look very much fits the theme I'm looking for as is also something that you'd find in a universe like this. This is meant to be a modular system so I can have a few of these and it wouldn't just look like a dupe.
Building B is the same design at A but with some changes, different shop placement, a billboard in it and the windows in different places. This allows for both building to be places down but bot just look like the same building it adds variety with the addition of having a sign on it that I can change the texture of so its not just the same one everywhere. The look of these two buildings was made with extruding and bevelling giving a metal look but also roundish. I think both of these buildings turned out amazingly.
The light needed to be simplistic and not to high in polys because I want there to be a lot of them. making the street look full due to the lights, like a real future city scene. The modelling was super simple for this mostly just extruding and scaling.
This is the original layout for the city, in my designs it made since because its 2D but in 3D its so empty and where your going to be standing at the top of this image you'd be able to see the void so I
had to rectify this by adding longs streets and more buildings.

After adding the side buildings I was staring to look so much better it looked like an actual city rather then just being a street. This made the world feel more alive and vibrant rather then just being 4 buildings and being able to see into the void, this allow will allow for better animations, making the vehicles be able to go around the corner out of site to reset. as well as obscure the flying ship when it fly's over and resets.
Thoughts on progress
The progress this week has been really good, it has allowed me to work on my hard surface modelling skills and I feel its improved since Pre-Production. I do feel like I could have done a little bit more but it can always make up for it next week.
Next Work Session
I will be doing the end buildings, Neon lights, Textures, Putting this into unity, Post processing and lighting, possibly particles. Lots to do.
