Devlog 9 - (Production start)
Ninth dev log for Production
What's been happening this week?
This week is the start of production, that means no block out and no test models. This is what the final product is going to look like and i want to blow it out of the park. This week i started on getting the room set up into a correct form factor exactly how I want it and designed. So i designed a modular system for the walls to make it easier for myself in the end, this includes doorways and just normal walls.
These were super useful when making my walls exactly the correct shape I wanted and could be adjusted where needed. This was usually along log parts with no break up or smaller sections where a door way was. This modular system worked out well and got the correct look I wanted but could have been better maybe with more variation Definitely something to look at in the future.
I then created some doors to go in the door ways so that its not super bland.
These are designs i liked by searching "Expensive doors" and i liked them so much I decided to make them and place them into my environment. This prosses was very easy just using the image as a reference and recreating that look. the only this I would change is the amount of edges I have in places because there is a lot and not much needed.
I then got all the walls into place, I thought they looked good, but it did feel really small so I might potentially look into making each room bigger over the next week allowing me to fit more in, but I can only see when I make my sofa to give a good idea of space. Unwrapping these were super easy, they don't look very clean but they make a lot of sense.
I then took this model into substance painter and textures each area exactly how i wanted and it turned out great, this is a blender viewport view of the model, This allows me to see how my NEON lights would look and I loved to look of them, I did change it from originally being this:
There was just to much purple on the walls for this one. so I changed it up and made it only go along the floor which looked so much better in the end. This whole texturing prosses was made super easy with my modular system of walls allowing me to unwrap one and this allows them all to be textured the exact same which saves so much time on work.
Thoughts on progress
My progress as a whole was quite good for just a weeks worth of work, Being able to see the room I imagined come together feels great and adding more into it will bring it alive. Some things I would change look at the size more carefully before texturing, Substance painter allows for changes in the mesh just not drastic ones so there shouldn't be an issue if things need to be bigger.
Next Work Session
The plan for next week is adding a sofa into the room, this will allow me to get a good understanding of the rooms size and change it depending on what I need. I also want to set up the TV area with the speakers, Shelves and books.
